A little about the process
Recycling gym equipment like treadmills, stationary bikes, and weight benches involves a careful process to handle their mixed materials responsibly. After collection—such as through Curbside Junk Collection—the equipment is taken to a recycling facility. There, it’s dismantled: metals like steel frames are separated and sent for scrap recycling, often melted down for reuse in manufacturing. Plastics, such as treadmill belts, are shredded and processed, though some may go to landfills if non-recyclable. Electronics in equipment, like control panels, are treated as e-waste—batteries and circuit boards are removed for specialized recycling to recover materials like copper and avoid hazardous leaks.
